Weekly Inflation Increases by 0.15% in Pakistan, Annual Rate Reaches 9.11%
ISLAMABAD: Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) showed that the weekly inflation rate in the country rose by 0.15 percent during the second week of August 2026, raising the annual rate to 9.11 percent.
The PBS report reveals the prices of 20 out of 51 essential commodities have increased, while prices of 9 commodities have gone down and 22 commodities have not changed during the week.

- Onions: Recorded a significant surge of 24.68%
- Chana Daal (Gram Lentil): Increased by 3.35%
- Chicken: Rose by 2.45%
- LPG: Went up by 0.67%
- Other increases: Tea, mustard oil, curd, and masoor daal.
- Notable Decreases: Petrol prices dropped by 2.35%, tomatoes decreased by 1.26%, potatoes by 0.73%, and diesel by 0.29%. Bananas, moong daal, eggs, and sugar also became cheaper.
Annual Price Trends
On a year-on-year basis, tomatoes saw an extraordinary surge of 143.77%, onions increased by 125.75%, and wheat flour rose by 77.41%. Furthermore, LPG prices jumped by 55.41%, diesel by 34.05%, and petrol by 23.02% over the past year. Conversely, potatoes recorded an annual decrease of 30%, while sugar and chicken prices dropped by 17.93% and 17.45% respectively.
