Use Wi-Fi Calling to Overcome Weak Mobile Signals, Advises Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA); Citizens Urged to Enable Feature in Phone Settings
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has officially issued a notice to mobile phone users reporting connectivity issues and call dropouts in cell sites with weak cellular signals to try Wi-Fi calling ().
The telecommunication regulator says Wi-Fi calling is a good alternative when the cellular phone signal is weak indoors, in offices or covered areas. This technology uses a Wi-Fi internet connection to direct voice calls around without the need for traditional cellular towers. Efficient Indoor Connectivity: The authority highlighted that the Wi-Fi calling technology can solve the voice connectivity issues in the places and environment where cell phone reception is weak, like in basements and thick wall buildings. Activation Requirements:
The service will work best if the mobile handset in which the user calls messages or phones with Wi-Fi is supported natively by the handset, and the mobile network operator (MNO) offers Wi-Fi calling. Step-by-Step Guidance: The PTA suggests that users go to the settings on their smartphones, find the network/connection options and activate the Wi-Fi calling feature manually. After activation and linked to a stable Wi-Fi link, users can easily and continuously call even in regions with weak signals.
