US VP JD Vance Says Economic Pressure Will Force Iran to Terms

Economic Pressure Will Force Iran to Accept a Deal: JD Vance

WASHINGTON: Washington’s best weapon is continued economic pressure, which will eventually bring Iran to the negotiating table, said U.S. Vice President JD Vance. In a media interview, Vice President Vance said that the “main goal” of the administration is not just destroying Iran’s nuclear program but “preventing” Tehran from regaining its nuclear abilities. He said the strategy is a “delicate dance” because of the possibility of economic counterattacks, but Iran is now facing much greater economic pressure.

The U.S. is making efforts to change Tehran’s strategic equations by ensuring energy supply through the Strait of Hormuz to ease domestic fuel prices, Vance said. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent Outlines Sanctions CampaignEchoing these remarks, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the coordinated maximum economic pressure campaign aims to severely restrict the Iranian government’s finances and proxy activities. Countries that are still doing business with Tehran, such as oil is shipped to it and financial transactions made, will be hit by the U.S. enforcement actions, Bessent said. The Treasury Secretary said international partners, including China, other global economies, all have an interest in maintaining the freedom of vital trade routes.
