US Military Ordered to Prepare for Potential Strikes Against Iran; Energy Sector and Infrastructure Reported as Likely Targets
WASHINGTON: As tensions with Iran continue to rise, the U.S. military has reportedly been ordered to get ready for possible action against Tehran.
The Pentagon has demanded the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) to make final preparations for potential military intervention and President Donald Trump is “taking a look” at the timeline for a response, according to the major US media outlets.
Highlights of US Military preparations and regional updates:
Target Areas: Any potential strikes might specifically focus on Iran’s critical energy infrastructure, key nuclear facilities, and core infrastructure.
Pentagon Stance: Pentagon officials said it’s a part of its operational mission to develop and present comprehensive military options to President Trump at any time, depending on which choices it’s considering.
Strait of Hormuz Status and CENTCOM Rebuttal: The White House and CENTCOM have pointed out that the United States has a controlling strategic advantage because of its control of the maritime routes. CENTCOM formally denied Iran’s accusations about the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and said the important trade route is open, the naval mines have been swept, and some 20 million barrels of crude oil are still flowing through the strait every day.
