Unilateral Indian Actions and Illegal Occupation Cannot Change Disputed Status of Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistan
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has emphatically spoken out against India’s baseless allegations on Jammu and Kashmir, saying that that the region remains a disputed area recognized by international law and cannot be changed through unilateral actions and continued illegal occupation.
Pakistan rejects the baseless claims made by India which are contrary to the internationally recognized historical and legal facts, Foreign Office spokesman Sajjad Haider Khan said. He stressed that any unilateral move by New Delhi does not have any impact on the core issue.
Jammu and Kashmir is a Longstanding UN Agenda Item.
The Foreign Office spokesperson said that the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir was one of the oldest, unresolved and internationally recognised problems which had been discussed in the agenda of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
All pertinent UN resolutions make it clear that the final solution to the Kashmir issue will be resolved through a free and impartial plebiscite based on the democratic wishes of the Kashmiri population conducted under UN auspices.
Official UN Maps and Call for International Action
The official maps of the United Nations, which have always referred to Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed region, are the only true mirror of the legal status of the region, it added. India’s so called maps and unilateral sovereignty claims are not legally valid in international law.
Pakistan has called on the international community to take action against India, demand an immediate end to the continuous human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoJK) and honour its pledges to give Kashmiri people the right to self-determination as per the UNSC resolutions.
