Two Crew Members Killed in Attack on Saudi Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz: Saudi Foreign Ministry
TEHRAN:Two crew members were killed in an attack on a Saudi oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, and Iran is directly responsible for the incident, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared.
Saudi authorities said that the attacked ship was an oil tanker, SIDR, that passed through the Strait of Hormuz on August 31. In the strike two crew members of Filipino origin lost their lives.
Iranian Claims and Maritime Operations
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, meanwhile, blamed two oil tankers on the Strait of Hormuz for having broken into the shipping lanes and detonating sea mines.
Meanwhile, Iranian border guards said they stopped a ship that was transporting 382,000 liters of smuggled fuel in the northern Persian Gulf on a separate incident. Iranian officials say 11 foreign crew members are being detained on the ship.
