System Introduced Under Emergency Will Continue Even After Assembly Restoration, States Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah; Emphasizes Political Solutions If PTI Cooperates Against Terrorism

ISLAMABAD: The administrative and governance mechanisms established under the emergency in KP will continue to be in place after the eventual restoration of the provincial assembly, says Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah.

In an interview with a current affairs programme, Sanaullah spoke about a lot of issues at national level, starting from sadness about the collapse of a school in Peshawar just recently and the dire need of conducting proper structural assessment of both public and private schools nationwide.

The major points of Rana Sanaullah’s Policy Remarks are:
Emergency Framework to be continued till provincial assembly is restored: Sanaullah said that there was no fixed duration for lifting the emergency and the newly formed administrative system will continue to be in effect in the province to ensure institutional alignment against militancy. He also said that future leaders should be a “Firm Front” Leader of the House against terrorism.

Advisor to the PM on Legal Affairs: Sohail Afridi’s legal status, commenting on former chief minister Sohail Afridi, the prime minister’s advisor claimed Afridi had been “constitutionally removed” from office, has multiple pending court cases and will have to face “long” legal proceedings.

Reflecting on past policies and negotiations, Sanaullah criticized some of those policies and recalled that in the past, the military had made a number of recommendations for allowing some people to come back according to certain arrangements. He argued that the peace talks and jirgas with militant groups have been a major cost to Pakistan in the past, stating that people showing sympathy for the terrorist would be given a “stinging response”.

Political Dialogue and Solutions: If PTI wants to be part of the solution to check terrorism and contributes with a constructive and uncompromising role, then political dialogue and solution is still possible, Sanaullah concluded, urging the party to refrain from being soft on militant networks in the past.
