Syrian Foreign Minister Concludes Pakistan Visit, Agreement Reached to Enhance Bilateral Cooperation
ISLAMABAD: The official visit of His Excellency Dr. Asad Hassan Al-Shibani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria to Pakistan has been successfully completed during which both countries agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various spheres to a significant level.
The Syrian Foreign Minister was invited by the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, who made the official call to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for the visit on August 19-20, 2026. The visit is the first official trip of a Syria Foreign Minister after the formation of the new government in Syria.
High-level meetings and institutional revitalisation.
Hence, in the detailed bilateral consultations, the Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and his Syrian counterpart reiterated the profound and brotherly relations between the two countries. Both sides stressed the need for frequent institutional communication and agreed to resume existing institutional procedures in the short term. Cooperation in areas of mutual interest and enhanced people-to-people contacts were also discussed.
During the two-day visit, the Syrian Foreign Minister met with the PM Mohammad Shehbaz Sharif at a high-level meeting. He also met the Minister of Interior and Narcotics Control, the Minister of Commerce and the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, as well. The Foreign Office said the visit is “a major step forward in the process of building a trustworthy friendship” and in setting “a new platform for bilateral cooperation in the future”.
