Supreme Court Suspends Sentences of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha in Controversial Tweet Case, Orders Immediate Release on Bail

Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan presided over the hearing on the petitions challenging their convictions which was held by a bench of two judges of the apex court. The Supreme Court accepted the appeals for suspension of sentences and granted both petitioners bail on bail bonds of Rs200,000 on each bail till their appeals are resolved by the Islamabad High Court.
These are the observations of the Supreme Court on Judicial Decorum.
During the ongoing proceedings, Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan said that the court is being conscious of the decorum of the judiciary by invoking the same on both sides, being petitioners who are practicing advocates. The judge said, “The role of an advocate differs from an ordinary citizen.
It is pertinent to mention that Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha had been sentenced to 17 years in prison by a lower court in January 2026 in a case related to a posting on social media.
