Sindh Government Orders Immediate Reduction in Public Transport Fares
KARACHI: Nationally, the petroleum product prices have been cut down, and now the Government of Sindh has made strict orders for immediate reduction in public transport fares all over the province.
The provincial government ordered the transporters to immediately pass on the relief to passengers due to the Rs 32.63 per litre decrease in diesel prices. All Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) such as buses, minibuses, coaches and intercity vans are required to be compliant. Transport operators have been specifically ordered to publish new fare schedules prominently inside their vehicles and at all major bus terminals.
Rigorous enforcement and monitoring
Transport authorities have been ordered to do a daily road check and vehicle inspection to ensure strict enforcement. The government said it will be strict in the law and impose penalties, such as heavy fines, on transporters for overcharging passengers, suspending route permits and canceling vehicle fitness certificates.
In addition, all pertinent agencies are required to provide daily compliance statements to the department to assure that the relief is distributed to commuters as quickly as possible.
