Second Round of Government-Opposition Negotiations Set for Today; PTI Negotiating Team Granted Full Decision-Making Powers

ISLAMABAD: The second phase of formal negotiations with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to hit a crucial stage of the political deadlock between the federal government and the party as the talks are slated for today.

After some discussions between the two negotiating committees and the Speaker of the National Assembly, it was agreed to resume negotiations at 3:00 PM this afternoon. Most importantly, PTI’s political and core committees have conferred on their negotiating team a complete decision-making authority without any restriction.

The following are some of the highlights of the discussions held today:
Committee: The composition of the committees, which each have six members, from government and opposition, will be the same as in the past as they will come to the table again to discuss the remaining grievances and strive to reach a political settlement.

Fate of the Long March: The highly awaited session of today will give a clear verdict in favour of PTI to either postpone or continue its demand of long march along with other major demands.

The first round of dialogue that took place yesterday did not yield a breakthrough despite both sides’ having made a commitment to maintain communication channels and continue the discussions today.
