Saudi Civil Defense Issues Emergency Alerts for Makkah, Jeddah, and Taif Amid Heightened Houthi Drone Attack Threats
RIYADH : With the heightened security risks and threats in the region and the possibility of a drone or missile attack by the Houthis, the Saudi General Directorate of Civil Defense has warned citizens of various major cities of an emergency, including Makkah, Jeddah, and Taif.
Official Civil Defense warnings indicate that fresh high alert warnings have been activated for Abha and Khamis Mushait as well. Authorities have strongly recommended that residents and citizens take utmost care to follow all safety instructions and precautions issued.
The Saudi Cabinet condemns deliberate attacks on civilian targets.
Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman held an emergency meeting of the Saudi Cabinet in Jeddah while this was happening. The cabinet firmly condemned the relentless and deliberate Houthis attacks on “civilian infrastructure and populated areas”.
Reiterating the Kingdom’s strong stance, the Crown Prince affirmed the right of Saudi Arabia to defend its territory and protect its national security and interests, and stressed that Saudi soil will never be compromised.
Briefing on International Engagements and Regional Talks
The Crown Prince spoke to the ministers about his recent diplomatic interactions and meetings with the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Commander of United States Central Command (CENTCOM), General Brad Cooper, during the cabinet’s meeting. The cabinet also had in-depth discussion on the current political and security situation both regionally and internationally.
