Saudi Arabia Plans Major Military Offensive Against Houthis in Yemen; Over 100,000 Yemeni Personnel Expected to Be Mobilized

RIYADH : Saudi Arabia is reportedly readying a large-scale military assault on Houthi rebels in Yemen, including the possible deployment of over 100,000 Yemeni troops in the war.

The mission will include Saudi air operations in support of the ground campaign, which is likely to start in the next few weeks, with the Yemenis spearheading the combat efforts on the ground, according to Reuters.

Key features of the intended attack
The two main tactical options being considered by Riyadh are a more limited attack in the immediate area around the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and a more comprehensive attack in the Yemeni provinces of Al-Bayda, Marib, Taiz and Al-Jawf.

US Intelligence Support: The US is supplying intelligence and target-siting information to assist the Saudi-led operations, but it is unlikely that American troops will be ground troops in the fight.

Role of Regional Allies: Partner countries like Pakistan and Türkiye are reportedly aiding Yemen defensively with military equipment and assistance in the form of troops, but there’s no decision taken by Islamabad or Ankara to send combat troops to Yemen.
