Reshuffle Proposed in Judicial Commission of Pakistan; Bilawal Bhutto and Rana Sanaullah Nominated as New Members
ISLAMABAD: There is a major reshuffle going on in the government’s parliamentary presence on the Judicial Commission of Pakistan ([JCP]) after the voluntary resignation of some of its members and consultations held among the coalition partners.
It has been suggested that Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari replace PML-N National Assembly Chairman Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, who is currently holding his seat in the House, at the back of a number of posts in the Assembly, while PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah is being eyed to fill the Senate seat of PPP’s Senator Farooq H. Naek. The formal process is underway and taking place via the relevant parliamentary forums for the new appointments.
Resignations of Prior Members: The resignations have been made due to Article 175A(2) of the Constitution which mandates that a member of the JCP shall resign because of personal commitments and professional preoccupations.
The induction of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Rana Sanaullah will change the team of the government in the commission and the formal notification of the change of government team will be issued soon.In conjunction with these developments, the Judicial Commission has scheduled an important session of the Judicial Commission to be held in the Supreme Court conference room at 1:30 PM on October 13.
It will be chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi. Deliberation and decision on extension of constitutional benches in SHC: The main focus of the meeting on 13-10 will be on deliberating and deciding extension of the term of the constitutional benches of SHC which are scheduled to expire on 25-10.
