PTI to March on Islamabad on September 27 for Rights, Not Conquest: Barrister Gohar
ISLAMABAD:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has stated that the party wants full implementation of judicial orders regarding meetings with incarcerated founder Imran Khan, welcoming recent rulings by the Islamabad High Court.
Speaking to the media in the federal capital, Barrister Gohar remarked that it is a positive development if courts begin delivering justice, emphasizing that the party only demands compliance with judicial directives. He noted that leadership has been denied meetings with the founding PTI chairman for 320 days.
The PTI Chairman asserted that on September 27, the party is not coming to conquer Islamabad, but rather to secure its fundamental rights. He announced that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi will lead the demonstration, assuring that the protest will remain entirely peaceful without any acts of violence.
Barrister Gohar stressed that PTI will not utilize state or provincial resources, nor is it marching to break the gates of Adiala Jail. “We want justice, our demands must be accepted, and they should be considered seriously,” he added.
Recalling the party’s parliamentary and legal struggles, Gohar stated that PTI approached the courts and raised its voice in Parliament and the Senate, but remained unheard. He highlighted that the founding chairman has faced seven convictions, is implicated in roughly 300 cases, and has spent three years behind bars, declaring that “enough is enough.”
Urging the state to take a step forward, Barrister Gohar demanded that to restore an atmosphere of trust, Imran Khan should be shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, noting that the entire opposition stands united on his healthcare.
Addressing national security and foreign policy, the PTI Chairman maintained that PTI is a political party aiming for national progress, noting that Pakistan recently defeated a much larger adversary. He clarified that the protest was announced prior to the Pakistan-Saudi Arabia and Pakistan-Turkey defense agreements, emphasizing that PTI has never obstructed major diplomatic successes.
“When US-Iran talks took place in Pakistan, PTI cancelled its rally. When Iranian and Chinese delegations visited, we sat together in the National Assembly. Unfortunately, no willingness for political accommodation is visible from the other side,” he remarked.
Warning against closed doors, Barrister Gohar stated that if political pathways are blocked, the system will shrink further. “You yourselves say the system needs a reset; if you are not ready to reset it, the public will do it themselves. Wisdom lies in ending tensions and finding political solutions,” he warned.
Criticizing non-compliance with Supreme Court orders, he questioned why meetings remain barred. He also announced plans to invite all opposition parties to join the protest movement, condemning the continued detention of Bushra Bibi in a closed case as inhumane. He concluded that the opposition alliance will hold the government accountable both inside Parliament and through public mobilization on the streets.
