PTI September 27 Protest Case: IHC Forms Larger Bench and Summons Chief Secretaries and IGs of All Four Provinces
ISLAMABAD:The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has given a written order in the case of a petition challenging the planned September 27 protest and long march by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and has constituted a three-member larger bench to consider the matter.
In the order, Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar had asked the chief secretaries and Inspectors General of Police (IGs) of all four provinces to be present before the court at the next hearing, a three-page document. In addition, the court also ordered the summoning of the Chief Commissioner Islamabad, IG Islamabad and Deputy Commissioner Islamabad in their personal capacity.

The Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar has set up a larger bench to hear the high-profile case. Chief Justice of Lahore High Court Sarfaraz Dogar, Justice Azam Khan and Justice Muhammad Asif are sitting on the bench.
The written protest filed to stop the proposed PTI protest came from a local trader, as per the order. The petitioner’s attorney told the court the possible economic disruptions and losses that could occur as a result of civil disorder and road blockades in Islamabad, which he argued are already dealt with under existing law. The court has issued a formal notice to the Attorney General for Pakistan to come on board as amicus curiae to the court, recognizing the gravity of the matter.

The legal proceedings are related to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Sohail Afridi’s call for a nationwide protest, calling for a long march on September 27, following the denial of visitation rights and access to personal doctors to the jailed PTI founder.
