PTI Long March Led by CM Sohail Afridi Set to Reach Peshawar Tonight; Next Phase of Protests to Be Announced in Swabi
PESHAWAR : The nation’s high-profile long march began by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, is expected to reach Peshawar tonight after travelling through various districts.
The long march began on October 4 from the southern district of Lakki Marwat with basic demands of holding meetings with the party’s founding chairman, his rightful treatment and speeding up of pending legal cases.
Here are some of the highlights of the route and schedule of the Long March.
The march was initially meant for caravans to come from Dera Ismail Khan, South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat and Tank. But a large convoy led by former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur was later forced to return, leaving it temporarily away from the main convoy, because of closure of Yarik Interchange. The caravan set out, passing the first night at Karak, towards Kohat.
Kohat Rally and Peshawar Arrival: After passing through different bazaars in Kohat and reaching the College Chowk from where Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was speaking to the supporters, the marchers were set to move towards Peshawar where workers are to arrive at Matani suburban area late tonight.
Future marches: The march will continue to pass through the key roads of Peshawar until it arrives at the Charsadda Interchange at the end of the day on October 7. After that the convoy will ride off towards Swabi where CM Sohail Afridi is expected to declare the roadmap for the next phase of the protest movement on October 8.
