PTI Fails to Secure JUI-F Backing for Joint Street Protests as Barrister Gohar Rejects Deferring September 27 Demonstration
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has reportedly not convinced Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman to join in a joint protest outside Parliament and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has also strongly denied that they would be willing to delay the protest scheduled for the 27th of this month.
A high-level PTI delegation met Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad to hold a consultative meeting, according to a source of the politics. The leadership of the JUI-F agreed to work together in the legislature on parliamentary strategies, but did not agree to mutual street agitations outside the legislature. Maulana Fazlur Rehman, however, had told the PTI delegation to conduct wider consultations internally prior to the timing of an All Parties Conference (APC).
Barrister Gohar Rejects Protest Delay
In response to the speculation, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar told the media that the party will not be delaying the protest action it has planned for 27th of this month and it will go ahead.
Gohar said there is no formal talk with the federal government at the moment and the party will keep all major political parties informed on important matters of the state.
