Proposals for Democracy Presented to PPP, Hopes for Positive Response, Says Barrister Gohar After Opposition Delegation Visit
ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has claimed that detailed plans have been submitted to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) for protecting democracy and he is hopeful they will accept the offer.
Barrister Gohar highlighted the fact that the opposition coalition has grave national issues which needed immediate joint protection while interacting with the media in Islamabad after the high level political consultations.
The Delegation’s visit was marked by several key highlights, including:
Outreach to PPP Secretariat: Earlier, a high-level delegation of opposition alliance Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aئین Pakistan led by Barrister Gohar, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas and other senior opposition leaders met the PPP Centre and had formal discussions with the PPP Secretary General Nayyar Hussain Bukhari.
Invitation to All Parties Conference: In the course of the meeting the opposition delegation formally invited the PPP to join an upcoming All Parties Conference (APC) for building a united position on pressing political and constitutional issues.
Reiterating Protest Plans and Leadership Stance: As the questions related to the political lines were asked about the future direction of the political protest movement, Barrister Gohar reiterated that the planned long march of the alliance will be going ahead and that Sohail Afridi will continue to be the Chief Minister. He said that allied parties have always kept things transparent and had shared all their political works with each other.
The visiting delegation was then told by the PPP leadership that the proposals would be carefully considered and discussed within each party and a formal reply would be sent once they had done so.
