Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Contacts JI Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Requests Postponement of Long March
ISLAMABAD : Currently an official in New York, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has put himself in touch with Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman and asked the party to suspend its ongoing long march and public gathering for a few days.
In the telephone conversation, the Prime Minister gave details of the public relief package, which has been prepared by the government, and assured him that as soon as he comes to the country, he will meet the leaders of JI to present a much wider package for public comfort.The relief package was not accepted and it was difficult to go on with life.
Responding to this, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman pointed out to the Prime Minister that the relief package announced by the government is unacceptable under any circumstances and Jamaat-e-Islami will keep pressing for the public demands.The JI Emir stressed that the party has been making protests against the heavy petroleum levies for more than one month and will not relent from its protests until the levy is dropped entirely.
In response to the Prime Minister’s request for a brief halt to the long march, Hafiz Naeem said a final decision on that would be made following the official consultation with the party’s top leadership.
