Preparation to Increase Electricity by Rs 2.52 Per Unit, Petition Filed with NEPRA
ISLAMABAD: The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a petition with NEPRA for the hike in the electricity tariff by Rs 2.52 per unit for consumers around the country. The request was made by CPPA for the July fuel price adjustment (FPA) period when the electricity generated using imported LNG was Rs 47.37 per unit, according to a notification by NEPRA.
The petitioner had said that 10.78% of electricity was produced from LNG, with total cost of Rs 77.19 billion, and 1.42% of electricity produced by furnace oil (Rs 10.77 billion).

The petitioner found that 39.81% of the electricity was produced using hydropower, 10.91% from local coal, 14.38% from imported coal and 10.10% through nuclear power. The fuel cost for nuclear generation was Rs 3.02 per unit.
The petition also showed that during July, 31 million units of electricity were generated from high speed diesel at a cost of Rs 54.47 per unit.
NEPRA says it will hold a hearing on the CPPA petition Aug. 27. The approval will mean that the electricity consumers will have to shell out an extra Rs 41 billion (plus the proposed GST) to the electricity companies.
