When the Saraiki Province in Punjab Is Discussed, the PPP Supports It: Khawaja Asif

ISLAMABAD:Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif has said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) supports it and has shown soft approach towards creation of Saraiki province in Punjab whenever the issue is brought up.

However, whenever the discussion moves towards establishment of more administrative divisions or provinces outside the four, talk about “Sindhudesh” gets started in a statement issued on X (formerly Twitter) by Khawaja Asif. He said he sees a double standard in the PPP on the issue and will have a chance to discuss that at an appropriate time.

The principles of devolution of power and constitution are the same.Devolution of power and constitutional principles are same.
The Defence Minister pointed out that as a first principle the Constitution has stressed devolution of power, which has not been followed in letter and spirit and the first rule is everyone involved is a Pakistani.

Asif said that the prevailing situation and the current national situation called for the commitment of honourable adherence to the principle of the devolution of power, so that democracy could flourish at the grassroots and ordinary people can truly enjoy its benefits.

Administrative Units and Existing Divisions (A/E)
Asif’s vision on governance structures was to simply fix the existing structure, be it under the term “Province” or “Administrative Unit,” without any confusion.

He recommended that the 36 administrative divisions of the country can be effectively used or an alternative administrative and geographical structure can be designed for better governance.
