Polling Begins for Reserved Seats in Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly
MUZAFFARABAD: The voting process for the reserved constituencies in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly has started. The Election Commission spokesperson said that the polling started at 10:00 AM inside Assembly Hall Muzaffarabad which will run till 1:00 PM.
According to election officials, there are six candidates running against the five seats reserved for women. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) put forward four female candidates and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) nominated three women candidates, but PPP’s Shaheen Kausar Dar later dropped her nomination papers.
Technocrat and professional, Sahibzada Zulfiqar (PPP) and Barrister Iftikhar Gilani (PML-N) are contesting for the seat of the technocrat and professional. PML-N’s Mazhar Saeed is facing Hafiz Tariq Mahmood of PPP in the elections for the Ulema and Mashaikh seat. In the meantime Abdul Rehman Arain was elected as the overseas Kashmiri seat as no one contested his nomination papers, presented by PML-N before the PPP.
