Petrol Relief Scheme to Roll Out Nationwide in Coming Days, Announces Federal Minister Musadik Malik
ISLAMABAD: The government’s long-awaited Petrol Relief Scheme will be rolled out across the country in the coming days for targeted financial support for vulnerable people, said Federal Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik.
Musadik Malik, in a press conference in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad, announced that special informational stalls will open around the country from tomorrow to give citizens detailed and comprehensive information about the operating procedure of the relief scheme.
This is a registration using the Shortcode 9771 and Quota Allocations.
Explaining the working of the scheme, the federal minister said the people first need to register digitally by sending an SMS with the keyword “REG” to 9771. After the registration, the applicants will receive a secure digital token through sms, which they can use at the petrol pump to get subsidized petrol.
The structured quotas created for the program:
Motorcyclists: Will get subsidised fuel allowances of 5 litres per week.
Vehicle Owners (up to 800cc): will get 10 litres of subsidized petrol every 10 days.
There are also specific desks in the government where they can go to resolve SMS registration and token generation-related issues, when the citizens are facing any technical problem. There are comprehensive operating instructions and video tutorials available on electronic communication platforms and government websites.

Turning to the economic background, Musadik Malik said the rising international petroleum prices due to a heavy dependence on the US- Iran conflict have put a tremendous financial burden on the ordinary citizens.
The war is not over and oil prices are not down, but the government has done its utmost to meet the public’s basic right to relief, Malik added. He highlighted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had directed the administration to serve as a protective umbrella for the poor households and to make sure that the impacts of the global economic shocks don’t directly affect the common man.
The minister gave examples of the impact of the relief package in real terms: a pizza delivery driver or a Qingqis/rickshaw driver such as Zainab, who earns an honest living to support her family, will receive fuel relief for the month in place of the cost of children’s school fees or groceries. Likewise, in the office environment, when they use cars with 800cc engines, there will be tangible financial relief that will bring down their monthly budgets.
The government restated its resolve to help the marginalized people in all the phases of economic crisis.
