Pakistan Sugar Mills Association Rejects Limited Export Decision, Demands Immediate Approval to Export 1 Million Tonnes of Sugar
ISLAMABAD:The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) Advisory Board has previously criticized the federal government plan to allow 200,000 metric tons of sugar exports, calling the ample amount wholly inadequate.
As of August 31, national sugar stocks built up to 2.6 million metric tons, while the average monthly domestic consumption level is 560,000 tons, according to the association’s spokesperson.
Looking at the upcoming crushing season of 2026–27, the PSMA pointed out that sugar stocks will also build up in local warehouses, with another deficit of about 1.25 million metric tons.
With these over-stocked reserves, the association has put great pressure on the government to immediately permit the export of at least one million metric tons of sugar. In addition, during the meeting of the advisory board, the demands of sugar industry deregulation and freedom of the market to determine the production and trade of the product and its prices have been repeated.
