Our People Are Peaceful and No Bullets Should Be Fired, Says PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar; Long March Will Continue

ISLAMABAD: In a speech, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Chairperson of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has stated that protesting is a democratic right and that however strong or loud the protest is, it cannot be violent.

Speaking to the media in Swat, Barrister Gohar slammed the government for its lack of sincerity in the recent negotiations, reminding the authorities that even in war-time, negotiations are held and asking the government to arrange a meeting with the founder of the PTI.

The key highlights of Barrister Gohar’s Press Talk are as follows:
Reaffirming the party’s long march that had not yet ended, Gohar emphasized that it would stick to its designated routes, but security forces should be extremely cautious while dealing with the protestors, who were entirely peaceful.

Rejection of Emergency or Governor’s Rule: Dismissing suggestions of imposing Governor’s Rule and/or state of Emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gohar warned the country of entering a “constitutional blind alley” if such measures were taken and said that it would face a full boycott of Parliament and legislatures.

Political Demands and Detention Criticism: PTI chairman criticized detention of political personalities, reiterating that the party would not call for resigning from government or dissolving the provincial assembly and urging return of the federal government to the negotiating table, adding that non-political women being detained in Kot Lakhpat Jail deserved letter of apology.
