No Compromises or Deals Will Be Made for Imran Khan’s Release Through the 28th Amendment, Asserts PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar; Says Party Founder Is Ready to Spend 100 Years in Prison Without Surrendering
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has made it clear that the party will not make any deals or barter votes in the proposed 28th Amendment in the Constitution of Pakistan for the release of the party’s founding chairman.
Barrett Barrister Gohar told media in Islamabad that the 28th amendment was not discussed during the parliamentary party meeting nor it was on the official agenda. Citing the undaunting determination of the jailed leader, Gohar had cited Imran Khan’s statement that he is prepared to serve 100 years in jail, but will never take any compromise.
Addressing rumors of a quid pro quo deal for Imran Khan’s release and a constitutional amendment, Barrister Gohar emphasized that PTI would never make any backroom deals.
The PTI Chairman said that the party’s formal recommendations would be sent to both opposition leaders and the parliamentary party had full faith in the government’s leadership and in the government of New Provinces.
He also said that in principle, he was for the constitution of new provinces in Pakistan, but that should never happen without the will of the people.Contradictory statements made by party colleagues in the ranks, which were in contrast to Barrister Gohar’s comments, revealed that the 28th amendment was in fact discussed during the parliamentary meeting, with some members proposing that efforts could be made to look at constitutional remedies for relief or release if they could be found.
