ISLAMABAD:Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide, who, at the high-level meeting, agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the field of counter-terrorism, illegal immigration, police training and mutual legal assistance.
During the meeting, the current situation in Afghanistan was discussed along with the activities of proscribed organizations working from its territory. Pakistan’s constructive and active contribution in de-escalating the tensions between the United States and Iran was appreciated by the Norwegian Foreign Minister.
The number of illegal immigrants going towards Europe has decreased by 47 percent as major measures were taken by Pakistan, said Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. He pointed out that Pakistan has zero tolerance policy in matters of trafficking in persons and illegal migration and the European Union has also commended the state’s efforts in this regard. Encouraging legal migration routes is essential in order to effectively deter illegal crossings, Naqvi added.
Emphasizing on the regional threats to security, Naqvi said that Afghan land is still being used for terrorism against Pakistan. He said Pakistan is on the front foot to build a wall between global security and terror and safety efforts should be a joint international initiative to completely wipe out the menace.
The Norwegian Foreign Minister commended the active engagement of the Pakistani community in Norway, highlighting its significant contributions in various critical areas, including politics, healthcare, and other sectors. The meeting was also attended by the State Minister Talal Chaudhry, Federal Interior Secretary and other high officials.
