Middle East Tensions Escalate: US President Donald Trump Cuts Short Camp David Stay and Returns to White House Early
WASHINGTON : Tensions have been rapidly rising across the Middle East, and amid the deluge of stress, U.S. President Donald Trump shortened his weekend visit to Camp David and made an unplanned early appearance back at the White House.
The report said Trump came back, one day early, from his originally scheduled appearance. The administration did not give an official explanation for the shift in the schedule, but the move came as a result of escalating regional tensions.
Trump’s early return came as news broke of Yemen’s Houthi rebels launching a ballistic missile at the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Moreover, a fire reported was near the Saudi capital’s international airport. Meanwhile, the US State Department issued warnings to its citizens and several American embassies in the region issued similar security warnings.
The State Department cautioned that the current fighting has the “potential for unforeseen escalation” and could escalate “rapidly.” Citizens not from the Middle East were strongly advised to carefully re-evaluate all travel plans to and from the Middle East.
