Met Office and NDMA Forecast Widespread Monsoon Rains Across Punjab and Upper Regions Until September 17, Issuing Urban Flooding Alerts
ISLAMABAD : The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted another monsoon weather system into the upper parts of the country, which is likely to result in heavy rain and thunderstorms in Punjab and Northern areas from today till September 17.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned of the final monsoon spell in the wake of the meteorological advisory. The torrential rains pose the threat of urban flooding in low-lying urban localities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Faisalabad and Lahore, as well as a very high risk of landslides on mountainous tracks in Kashmir, Murree and Galyat.Meanwhile, severe weather hit the federal capital late last night, resulting in overnight Storm Disrupt.
Trees were knocked down in several roadways including Margalla Road, Faisal Avenue and there has been some material damage to parked cars because of high intensity windstorms and sudden gusts.
Furthermore, a large concert stage was also toppled at Pakistan Sports Complex under the effect of the strong winds.Peshawar and the adjoining areas also received rain and cloudy weather shrouded Islamabad in the early morning today.
The citizens, travelers and tourists are advised by the NDMA to be extremely careful during the weather forecast period and refrain from any unnecessary travel via the vulnerable corridors of the mountainous region.
