Maulana Fazlur Rehman Must Retract His Controversial Remarks, Asserts Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry; Emphasizes Zero Tolerance for Compromises on the State, Armed Forces, and Martyrs

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has said that there won’t be any compromise on the subject of state, armed forces or national martyrs and demanded Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) to withdraw his recent controversial statements.

At the press conference in Islamabad, Talal Chaudhry explained that there was no personal malice towards Maulana Fazlur Rehman, but said the government was with the state, the military and the sacrifices of martyrs.

The key points of the state minister Talal Chaudhry’s press conference in Islamabad are highlighted below.
Zero Tolerance on Martyrs and Armed Forces: Chaudhry said that the current level of political standards cannot be taken down to the point of making martyrdom a debatable issue. He said that “martyrdom will become a political ploy and political integrity will end.

Interior Minister Chaudhry said that Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has shared just a part of the facts and there is no certainty he won’t share more depending on the situation. Though it is TDP’s own people who give clarity, it will only happen if Maulana Fazlur Rehman gives direct clarification, Chaudhry said.

In this context the Minister of State reiterated the government’s baseline expectations; calling a terrorist a terrorist is a non-negotiable condition, he said and added that political leaders should explicitly declare a terrorist a terrorist, condemn all militant acts unequivocally and stand with the state security forces in combating terrorists.
