Marches, Strikes, and Sit-Ins Threaten Economic Recovery and Could Cost Pakistan Rs120 Billion Daily, Warns Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb
ISLAMABAD: Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has cautioned that the escalating political uncertainty, protest marches, strikes and sit-ins might decelerate the country’s positive trajectory for a sustained economic growth and stability.
In the current economic scenario, it’s hard to understand why people are asking for disruptive marches or strikes in the country, Muhammad Aurangzeb said in an interview with state media. He warned that such “hustle and bustle” will make economic development difficult not only but will also cost the national economy Rs120 billion a day in financial losses.
Move from Stability to Growth in the face of Regional challenges
The Finance Minister pointed out that sadly, the negative effects of the Middle Eastern situation are affecting the economies of the world.
Notwithstanding those negative external factors, Aurangzeb pointed out that Pakistan’s own economy is making a transition from the stabilization phase to the concrete phase of economic development.
