Punjab: Low-Level Flooding Recorded at Tarbela and Kalabagh
LAHORE: Most rivers flowing in the Punjab have normal water levels but in Tarbela and Kalabagh low-level floods are prevailing in Indus river.
The PDMA spokesperson said the flow of the Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej rivers at present is in normal status. Similarly, water discharges in hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Nullah Palkhu and other streams are also normal, PDMA spokesperson added. A low level flood condition, however, has been reported in Nullah Deg, important tributary of Ravi, where 15,500 cusecs of water discharge has been recorded.
The PDMA reported the water flow at Kalabagh at 321,000 cusecs while 250,000 cusecs has been measured at Tarbela.
Tarbela Dam has now filled up to 100 per cent while Mangla Dam is at 77 per cent. In the wake of the ongoing weather and flood situation, PDMA Director-General Saif Anwar Jappa appealed to the citizens to take precautionary measures due to the situation, advising people to strictly avoid recreational activities on the banks of rivers, canals and streams. He urged people to be extra cautious of children and forbade them from swimming or bathing in rivers and waterways at any time.
