ISLAMABAD: The political crisis has escalated to an unprecedented level with reports of the arrest of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and provincial PTI leader Junaid Akbar since the federal government imposed a state of emergency and Governor’s Rule on the province.

Provincial party leaders on social media emphasized the development, as an example of a stiffening of the screws on local leadership in the new administrative structure.

Official Movement: After the imposition of emergency measures and Governor’s Rule there was tight restriction on official movement at the Chief Minister House with no access to the public or politics and quite a bit of the security staff reduction. It is proposed to appoint a new chief secretary of the government.

Along with the administrative changes, an official notification has been issued by the federal government regarding the appointment of senior bureaucrat Dr. Fakhar Alam Irfan as the new Chief Secretary of KP.

PTI Leadership Urges Party Rejection and Protests: PTI has strongly denounced the arrests as well as the emergency rule, calling the federal move unconstitutional and an assault on provincial autonomy, adding it will contest the move in legal and political platforms.
