Lack of Fire Safety Arrangements Exposed at Majority of Petrol Pumps in Karachi, Several Sealed by KMC
KARACHI: The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced a strong action against majority of the petrol pumps in Karachi as it has been revealed that there is no fire safety equipment and precautionary measures in the majority of petrol pumps in Karachi.
The KMC had blocked several petrol pumps on M.A. Jinnah Road and Lee Market for not complying with the safety standards and also in the Old City area during operations carried out across the major traffic arteries.
PPDA Protests and Dispatch of Complaint Letter to Mayor Karachi
The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) lodged a strong protest against the sudden sealing of fuel stations and sent a letter of protest to mayor of Karachi calling for immediate de-sealing of the fuel stations.
Before the sealing campaign, KMC teams had done a pre-campaign inspection of various petrol pumps on 2nd and 3rd September, according to details. But the PPDA claimed the crackdown by the municipal administration began before the end of a seven-day timeframe that had been granted.
The body of the petroleum dealers informed that KMC had sent formal letters to the owners of the stations on August 29 to install necessary fire-fighting arrangements and safety measures within a certain period.
