Kashmir Dispute Will Not End Until UN Resolutions Are Implemented, Says Newly Elected AJK Prime Ministe
MUZAFFARABAD: Newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Prime Minister Barrister Iftikhar Gilani has stated that Kashmir is not just an issue of territory and that it would be resolved only when India would abide by the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
After being elected, Iftikhar Gilani vehemently denounced Indian state terrorism in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and the illegal and unilateral action of August 5, 2019, by the Indian Government while speaking to the media outside the AJK Legislative Assembly.

The Prime Minister paid rich tribute to the indomitable spirit of the people of occupied Kashmir and recounted Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s famous dictum “Kashmir is Pakistan’s jugular vein” and that “Pakistan is incomplete without Kashmir, Kashmir is incomplete without Pakistan”.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the Pakistan Armed forces, saying that the citizens are free from any anxiety, as Pakistan has soldiers at its borders for their protection. He also thanked PM Shehbaz Sharif for his political support.
The entire world had seen how India was humbled and Gilani gave thanks to the Field Marshal and added that today every Kashmiri is walking with his head high and a strong and stable Pakistan is the ultimate assurance of freedom.
Strategically focus on governance, economic development and structural reforms
Underlining the tough days facing Azad Kashmir, the Prime Minister said two districts were yet to organise their elections, and the ongoing Assembly was incomplete without these seven.
Speaking about the domestic issues, Gilani noted that the skyrocketing inflation, unemployment and the future of the youth were serious issues that his government must address, noting that the issues could not be addressed through mere speeches. He has expressed his dream of developing the model like that of Punjab that has been emulated by countries around the world in Azad Kashmir.
The AJK Prime Minister vowed that government recruitment systems would be completely transparent, saying they would stick to the standard of merit set by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in the 2016-2021 government. He pointed out agriculture, livestock and tourism as economic pillars which will be strongly promoted.

To address the changing nature of employment, which is creating opportunities with digital governance frameworks to enhance the employment opportunities, Gilani said that.
He is pledging to make comprehensive reforms in the education sector to earn public trust and to revamp the health care system to make people not have to move to other cities to get healthcare. He said his cabinet will be completed and sworn in in the next few days.
Raising the issue of the bureaucracy directly, Gilani asked the government to find out the flaws in the system of administration proactively. This House will not sit “comfortably” nor will allow my team to rest,” he warned.
In the end the Prime Minister affirmed his commitment to ending the legacy of bureaucratic blockages by transforming the culture of the land revenue department (patwari) and police stations (thanas), and to ensure that no ordinary citizen has to seek private political patronage in order to exercise his fundamental rights.
