Karachi Ranks Among World’s Least Liveable Cities in EIU 2026 Report

Karachi Ranked as Fourth Worst City Globally for Liveability, Highlights Economist Intelligence Unit 2026 Report

LONDON: The latest global urban metrics show that Pakistan’s biggest city, Karachi, is still among the least liveable cities in the world. Karachi is ranked at 170th place in the 2026 Global Liveability Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) among 173 cities around the world.

The cities that are faring worse than Karachi on the worldwide list are Dhaka, Damascus and Tripoli. Key takeaways from the EIU 2026 Liveability Report: The Liveability concept goes beyond skyscrapers; it’s about a safe environment, a high-quality health system, excellent education, effective public transport, clean air, and a dependable urban infrastructure.

This year, Copenhagen, Vienna and Melbourne were the top three cities in the liveability rankings in the rest of the world, providing excellent levels of comfort and safety. Regional Shifts and Global Standouts: There was a significant decline in cities such as Muscat, Kuwait City, Amman, and Manama, while the report showcased a strong performance from Asian cities, with 10 Chinese cities topping the list of the 15 best performers in the world.
