Karachi Bar Association Announces Support for Jamaat-e-Islami and Traders’ Strike Against Inflation

KARACHI: The Karachi Bar Association, for its part, has declared its support for the nationwide strike called by the Jamaat-e-Islami and other business groups in protest of the high inflation rate and levies imposed on petroleum products.

The Karachi Bar Association will hold a peaceful protest against inflation, which will be held under its auspices and will start at the Sindh High Court and End at the Press Club, according to the notification issued by the Bar.

Compose appeals to Court for absences.
The statement noted that the strike and resultant lack of public transport may cause difficulties for lawyers and litigants trying to reach court premises.

As a result, the Karachi Bar has asked the courts to be lenient in the cases where lawyers and litigants do not appear before them for transport-related issues.

Jamaat-e-Islami Nationwide Protest
It’s noteworthy that Jamaat-e-Islami is organizing a nationwide strike today in protest of heavy petroleum levies and general inflation in the country.

During a sit-in in Lahore, Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem took a dig at the ruling PML-N, saying that they are negotiating in one hand and coercing in the other. He said that the party will reveal its future course of action after today’s strike, stating that protests against “extortion-like taxes” being disguised as taxes will continue.
