Ishaq Dar Meets IMO Secretary-General, Discusses Release of Captive Pakistani Sailors
LONDON: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar met the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary General, Arsenio Dominguez in London to discuss maritime security in the region and immediate release of Pakistani fishing vessels crewed by Pakistani fishermen.
The two officials had comprehensive discussions during the meeting in the UK covering Pakistan-IMO cooperation, maritime safety, security, global shipping standards, overall development of the Pakistan maritime sector etc. IMO is a key facilitator for safe, secure and efficient international shipping, and Urgent Intervention Sought for Sailors Aboard MT Honour reiterated Pakistan’s long-standing commitment with the IMO and praised its pivotal role in facilitating safe, secure and efficient international shipping.
He also heartfeltly thanked the IMO Secretary General for his continued assistance and cooperation in the safe release of the 10 Pakistani sailors who were captured on board the cargo ship MT Honour 25. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the critical importance of timely and enhanced institutional action to ensure the safe and early repatriation of all the crew members detained.
Moreover, Ishaq Dar said Pakistan was also actively working to enhance maritime governance and rigorously adhere to international maritime standards while strengthening the domestic blue economy, he said Pakistan was continuously engaged in strengthening maritime governance, rigorously the adherence to international maritime standards and expanding of domestic blue economy.
