Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian states in Bishkek that Iran is ready to reciprocate if the US adheres to the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, praising Pakistan’s diplomatic mediation.
BISHKEK: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in response to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that the United States has signaled to do so, has said Iran is ready to do the same if the US does.
The Iranian President told the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek that Tehran will react positively if Washington keeps its promises in the interim deal it struck in June.
Short-Lived Compliance and Meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif
President Pezeshkian explained that the Islamabad MoU signed by the US President was applicable to Iran, but its validity was less than two weeks for the US.
He said during his meeting with the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the sidelines of the SCO summit the Pakistani Prime Minister assured him that the Makkah Agreement was only defensive and did not have any intention of targeting any country, but only to ensure peace and security among the countries.
Praise for Pakistan’s Mediation and Call for Muslim Unity
The Iranian President praised Pakistan’s positive contribution in the mediation process, noting that in the event of the unity of the Muslim countries, outsiders will not be able to take matters to the war stage easily. Islamic countries have the complete power to solve their internal differences by dialogue and cooperation, he added.
President Pezeshkian also added that the mutual defense pact between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey is a positive development to further build the unity of the Muslim world, hoping that other countries in the region will join them to increase multi-sector cooperation.
