ISLAMABAD: The shrewdly scandalous behind-the-scenes drama of the breakdown of the joint parliamentary party meeting of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has been leaked, exposing deep divisions, scuffles and scorn from the PTI’s provincial leaders for their own protest tactics and lack of tangible planning.
In the tumultuous session, Memsaab members expressed their deep anger about the party’s agitation roadmap. Open questions were posed to the leadership by lawmakers, and they asked how there are so much noise of “Plan A, B, C and D” and no ground implementation. Expressing anger over the absence of any effective response from any party over the loss of government in a province, tensions erupted when Faisal Amin Khan, brother of Ali Amin Gandapur, stormed committee room doors and walked out of the meeting.
The following are the key highlights of the Stormy PTI Joint Parliamentary Party Meeting in Islamabad:
Heated Exchanges and Walkouts: Faisal Amin Gandapur left the committee room in a rage, with Khawaja Shiraz shortly to follow, brushing off calls from committee members while feigning a phone call.
Criticism of Leadership and Planning: Sources disclosed that parliamentarians lashed out at provincial leaders for making decisions without taking party members into confidence. Political contacts and negotiations by Mahmood Khan Achakzai were also a source of deep concerns from the lawmakers and later on, Atif Khan himself admitted to the heated debate, saying members openly discussed on mistakes and why the talks had not succeeded.
Despite the chaos a 6-Member Steering Committee was set up under the leadership of opposition leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Raja Nasir Abbas with the main job of getting access to the PTI founding chairman and providing proper medical facilities. Ensuring access and medical care is the party’s number one priority, Senator Mishal Yousafzai reiterated.
Rejection of Governor’s Rule and Emergency: Barrister Gohar, PTI Chairman repeated complaints against the government and said that PTI will be continuing its parliamentary duty. Governor’s Rule and emergency were uniformly rejected by the parliamentary party which announced that it will stand united against the menace of terrorism and former Speaker of the National Assembly Asad Qaiser formally presented a joint resolution.
