Government Proposes Summoning National Assembly Session on September 21 Ahead of PTI’s Protest
ISLAMABAD: The preparations have started to convene a session of the National Assembly before the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest scheduled for September 27 as a strategy move.
Political sources say the ruling unity has reached a consensus that Parliament should stay on and continue its session during the expected PTI protest. Strategists say that the concurrent action of the National Assembly and the protest will be effective to split the opposition party’s political agenda and presence on the street and in the assembly.
Speaker’s Consultation and Security Arrangements
According to the sources, the actual date of summoning the session will be determined after consulting with National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq.
Preparation of the agenda for the next session is expected to be starting soon. Furthermore, special security measures are being planned around Parliament House and for the protection of parliamentarians. The NA Speaker has also decided to reach out to both government and opposition leaders ahead of the session to foster parliamentary communication.
