Government Formally Initiates Contact with Opposition for Dialogue; Rana Sanaullah Reaches Out to Aamir Dogor Amid Pre-Conditions
ISLAMABAD: In a major political development, the federal government has officially initiated contact with the opposition to launch formal negotiations, with Prime Minister’s Advisor Rana Sanaullah holding a telephonic conversation with PTI leader Aamir Dogor to express a willingness for dialogue.
According to political sources, Aamir Dogor immediately briefed the opposition leadership regarding the government’s outreach, following which the opposition indicated a positive willingness to respond after internal consultations. Significant progress on the talks is anticipated within the next 24 hours.
Key Highlights of Political Developments and Negotiations
Opposition’s Pre-Conditions: The opposition agreed in principle to initiate talks without prior preconditions, but insisted on arranging a meeting with the founding leader of PTI prior to formal sessions, declaring that no new government conditions will be accepted beforehand.
Internal Oppositional Disagreements: During a meeting of the Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aaeen-e-Pakistan, differences emerged regarding the long march agenda, with leaders objecting to restricting demands to just four points. Proposals were put forward to incorporate broader public grievances, including inflation and the independence of the judiciary, into the protest charter.
Firm Stance on KP Administration: The opposition warned that the imposition of emergency rule, Governor’s Rule, or the disqualification of the Chief Minister in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will trigger a severe reaction, including potential nationwide protests across other provinces. Additionally, the united opposition decided to submit a fresh requisition for a parliamentary session.
