Fire Breaks Out in Gynecology Ward of Lahore General Hospital
LAHORE: A sudden fire broke out in the gynecology ward of Lahore General Hospital thus plunging the hospital into panic and causing heavy smoke to fill the premises. The fire is believed to have started when the ceiling of the ward was fitted with electrical wiring that shorted out.
Some 70 people, including pregnant women, were immediately evacuated from the building following the incident.
Firefighters and rescue teams “responded promptly” to extinguish the fire, according to the hospital administration, in order to prevent a major disaster. The health of the security guard however, suffered as a result of inhaling smoke during the rescue operation.
The security guard, whose name is not being made public, was rushed to the emergency department of Lahore General Hospital (LGH) for medical treatment, the administration said, adding that his condition is reported to be out of danger.
