Federal Government Summons 23,500 Police Personnel from Provinces to Bolster Islamabad Security Ahead of September Protests
ISLAMABAD: The Federal government has decided to take firm and comprehensive security measures throughout the capital in preparation for political protests that are expected to be announced by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Jamaat-e-Islami and farmer groups.
The federal government has officially called up 23,500 police officers from three provinces to boost security measures in Islamabad. The Cabinet Division has published a formal announcement for the deployment of the additional law enforcement contingents.
Provincial Contingent Breakdown and Deployment Timeline:
The administrative break down as stipulated in the notification: 15,000 police personnel were called from Punjab and 8,000 police personnel were called from Sindh and 500 police personnel were called from Balochistan.
They will commence their security and internal stability duties from September 20 in designated areas of the capital, with an arrival of 23,500 officers. The Cabinet Division has told the concerned Provincial Governments to ensure timely dispatch and logistical co-ordination of Police Forces to Islamabad.
