Federal Government Considers Nationwide Smart Lockdown and Three-Day Weekend to Curb Fuel Consumption Amid Rising Petroleum Prices
ISLAMABAD: The federal government is now considering adopting a “smart lockdown” for the entire nation, including a three-day weekend shutdown, in response to skyrocketing petroleum product prices stemming from the current conflict between the United States and Iran.
Official sources say that the government is considering measures to limit non-essential travel and public transport on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The proposals under discussion would see that the remaining four days of the week would be for regular commercial, industrial and government activities. It is now being evaluated how a smart lockdown would affect the daily operation of the business and the community’s economy, administration and public safety.
After detailed consideration of all possibilities, a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Prime Minister, who is expected to make a final statement on the measures for smart lockdown.
The Government has established the goals for energy conservation and carries out Inter-Ministry Consultations to achieve them.
Formal recommendations will be sought from a number of federal ministries and key state bodies before any formal decision is taken on the three day weekend structure. The goal of the “All” program is to reduce fuel reserves, non-essential travel and domestic consumption of energy.
