England Completes 3-0 Test Series Whitewash Against Pakistan After Eight-Wicket Victory in Third Test
BIRMINGHAM: England won the third and final Test by eight wickets at Edgbaston, following a respectable 130-run target which they cleared with only two wickets to part with, to give them a complete 3-0 series whitewash against Pakistan.
In the match details, there were no special highlights with England chasing down the required runs in this match, with Joe Root scoring 62 runs and Jordan Cox adding 59 runs. Both Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay hit a duck early in the match and were both ruled out by Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas.
Pakistan’s Second-Innings Fightback
Pakistan bounced back early in their second innings to make a huge effort to post 449 to give England a target of 130. The highlight of the day was the performance of Razaullah who scored a blistering 81 runs off 63 deliveries with nine sixes and four fours from no 8 position. He came up with a brilliant innings that helped Pakistan to avoid losing an innings and added some hope to the match.
Captain Shan Masood had the top score of 95 runs and Babar Azam had 76 runs for the visitors. Azan Awais (59 runs) and Mohammad Abbas (42 runs) supported admirably to build the run-up. Saud Shakeel (29), Mohammad Imran (4), Ghazi Ghori (16) also made their contributions, but Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique didn’t score.
Gus Atkinson took 3 wickets for England, with Ollie Robinson, Josh Tongue and Dan Lawrence grabbing 2 apiece and Jofra Archer picking up his 1 wicket.
First-Innings Struggles
The Pakistan batting woes had left them in trouble with the collapse of their first innings scoring, when they were bowled out in the middle for 133 runs, which prompted England to post a crushing 453-run total.
