Egypt Begins Serious Consideration to Join Makkah Joint Defense Agreement
CAIRO:Egypt has officially started serious talks on its accession to the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that Cairo has deep and special relations with all three countries, not just politically.
Egypt has been fully briefed on the framework of the Makkah Joint Defense Pact from the beginning, he said in reply to questions on the membership, stressing the country would welcome any decision made by its members.Egypt has been well briefed on the framework of the Makkah Joint Defense Pact from the beginning and is ready for any decision taken by the members, he said. State institutions are working on the matter comprehensively, he added, in order to make a rational final decision.
He noted that any possible linkage about mutual defense pacts and other related matters must be carefully analyzed in accordance with Egypt’s constitutional and legal rules.It is pertinent to mention that Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Türkiye inked the historic mutual defense pact, in which an attack against a member state will be considered an attack against others.
