Earthquake Jolts Dalbandin, Balochistan

4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Dalbandin and Surrounding Areas in Balochistan

DALBANDIN: An earthquake of Richter magnitude 4.0 rocked the Dalbandin district of Balochistan and surrounding areas and panicked people, who rushed out of their homes to the streets.

The epicentre of the tremor was about 100 kilometers to the southwest of Dalbandin and the tremor was shallower than 35 kilometres according to the Seismological Center.

There have been no reports of loss of life or property as a result of the tremor, according to initial reports. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said the situation is being closely monitored throughout the district and it is constantly in touch with the local administrative authorities to ensure safety of the public.

Meanwhile, seismic activity has also captured the international spotlight after a powerful 7.7 magnitude quake hit near Flores Island in eastern Indonesia causing earthquakes to structural damage and aftershocks, with a short tsunami warning that was quickly withdrawn. The Dalbandin tremor was much less intense, but regional authorities are still monitoring seismic activity in the region, experts say.
