China Willing to Cooperate in Economically Isolating Iran: JD Vance
WASHINGTON:United States Vice President JD Vance has said that he “can’t predict” if the war situation with Iran will end before the November US midterm elections.Vance told reporters at the White House in a briefing that China is showing a willingness to work with Washington’s current push to economically isolate Tehran.
The US Vice President said the Chinese government is a key importer of Iranian oil but holds the potential of being a constructive player in the US economic pressure campaign against Tehran. He said China is more responsible than Iran in that it does not target commercial shipping, although there are continuing differences in policies.
Attacking commercial oil tankers by Iranian forces is a major reason behind the high cost of fuel and oil, Vance reiterated. The oil flow, through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, has returned to its pre-war level, with significant amounts of oil passing through the choke point, he stated.
Stance on Dialogue and Regional SecurityIn response to the developments, Vance has said that the United States will not enter direct talks with Tehran until the Iranian military forces stop attacking commercial vessels.
As for civilian death tolls in Iran, he said the US military never intentionally targets civilians and that CENTCOM is looking into the reports.Vance ended by saying all options are on the table to stop Iran from becoming a nuclear power, and that Washington’s multi-layered approach is to protect international maritime trade and stability in global energy markets.
